Aims & Vision

We want each child to achieve to their individual highest potential, we want each individual to be valued for who they are, and we want each member of our community to fully respect and be respected by others. ERS, therefore, aims to provide an environment where learning can flourish, enabled by excellent teaching and care.

Thrive Not Survive

Our school vision is to transform the lives of children, especially children who have struggled, or would struggle, to grow and develop in a mainstream school setting because of barriers to learning caused by their additional needs.

We provide targeted on-site specialist support for each pupil, enabling them to access learning in the classroom and to make the best possible progress. We aim to provide a unique and relevant education for each student. We believe that education should be focused on the individual and should be about preparing each child for life after school, not just pursuing academic subjects and exams.

Why ERS

Egerton Rothesay is a co-educational, non-selective, school in Berkhamsted for pupils aged 6-19. It has spacious grounds and modern buildings across the campus – including recent new buildings for older pupils and designated areas for the junior school, specialist support and specialist teaching.

We welcome children with a range of abilities and from all faiths or none. We offer a broad curriculum with specialist support and small classes to cater for pupils with additional needs and who may find a larger school environment overwhelming.

Our pupils are funded either by their parents or by one of a number of local authorities who pay for, or contribute to, the cost of pupils attending ERS. Our catchment area extends over a 35-mile radius with many parents using our bus service for their child.

ERS pupils access a broadly mainstream curriculum appropriate to their needs, all supported by a programme of specialist provision, with specialist and classroom staff working together to support their learning needs and development. This means we can help children with a range of special educational needs to achieve their maximum educational potential.

ERS is a calm, safe, and supportive environment for pupils who have a range of additional needs. These include Speech, Language and Communication needs, Autism Spectrum Conditions, Attention Deficit Disorders , Specific Learning Difficulties and social and emotional needs.
